Such different Paths
String Septet (2 violins, 2 violas, 2 celli and
double bass) Duration: 15’ 2007/8
First
Performance: Janine Jansen, Julia- Maria Kretz,
Hartmut Rhode, Maxim Rysanov, Jens Peter Meinz,
Torleif Thedeen, Stacey Watton. Spectrum Concerts,
Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal Berlin
There
is the underlying idea of music as building blocks
(so the beginning starts with the two violins, then
the next 'block' comes in with the violas, then
cellos etc… all of which can work individually, but
also together). My intention is that there is the
sense of a journey (thus the occasional direction in
the score like 'searching' or 'transition').
The septet was commissioned by Spectrum Series,
Berlin on the occasion of the series’ 20th
anniversary and is dedicated to Spectrum Series and
Janine Jansen.
