Structurally, the piece is framed by calm,
nocturnal- sounding musical material, which is how the name came about. From
this material grow a number of much livelier episodes, like busy dreams. The
contradiction of being able to dream dynamic dreams, whilst sleeping calmly was
the inspiration.
